Sweet Happenings Brunch!

August 21, 2014

Happy Thursday, lovelies!! I’ve been looking forward to this post for a looong time now, and I’m so thrilled that it’s finally a reality. Angela and I decided a while ago that we wanted to collaborate and host a gathering of creative minds to eat good food, make new friends, and talk about what we love. The brunch turned out better than I could have anticipated. There isn’t much better than a Saturday spent eating delicious food, sipping cocktails, and catching up with some of my favourite people.
We threw the brunch in a fun little outdoor space that Angela’s building owns. It made for the perfect venue once we filled it with flowers and food. Angela planned the menu and whipped up some amazing dishes. Just looking at all this food is making me hungry again ;)

We were fortunate enough to work with some awesome people for this event, including Olla Urban Flower Project. They supplied this stunning centrepiece, which really set the stage for the whole table. They also created two mini versions of this guy, which were so fun dispersed around the space.

In addition to the centrepieces, we were also grateful to enjoy what are some of the best waffles I’ve ever had from GreenHorn Cafe here in the West End. Angela and I had tried them once before, and we knew they had to be on the menu for brunch. We topped them off with Nutella and berries and they were a hit!

We whipped up a couple pitchers of the gin + elderflower cocktails for the occasion. They were every bit as good as the first time we made them.

Doesn’t Olla make the most unique and textured arrangements? They’re definitely my #1 source when it comes to anything plant and flower related. Plus, the ladies in there couldn’t be sweeter or more knowledgable.

I painted a couple of signs to scatter around the party, including this ‘thanks a bunch’ sign. It always feels special when you add a few handmade details for your friends.

I loved seeing everyone enjoy their meals and get to know each other at the same time. Most of the ladies were new to each other at the beginning, but by the end, there were definitely some budding friendships.

For each lady, I put together a little bouquet to take home. Dahlias are in season here so I picked up as many as my arms could carry and went to town. I bought milk bottles from Michaels and painted name tags to tie around each bunch.

The dishes were sourced from a few different places. I collected all of the vintage ones from different thrift shops, and we picked out some of the others from Crate and Barrel. You can find those napkins at Ikea.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this brunch in full swing! It was such a joy to collaborate with Angela (and a couple of amazing shops) to host something like this. It may have been the first time, but it certainly won’t be the last!
